“So you’d rather leave me to be heartbroken?” Jake asked sorrowfully. Joan was aghast at his terrifying countenance at the moment. As he bit his lips hard to suppress the burning rage within himself, there was even abhorrence in his eyes.
Joan Watts, if you really opt for Larry today, I want you to be regretful for the choice you make today for the rest of your life!
Da*n it! How did Larry Norton know about this place?
“Jake, don’t waste your time and effort anymore. Just accept the fact that she doesn’t love you. If she really loves you, she wouldn’t be in hesitation. What’s the point of shackling both of you in a marriage without love?” Larry yelled apprehensively.
Even though Joan had not regained her memories, at least he was sure that she did not love Jake. That was already a great comfort for him.
Joan’s eyes were welled up with tears and she was seconds away from an emotional breakdown.
She shut her eyes in weariness. It was as if she was torn apart by two different forces. Part of her was urging herself to escape from Jake, whereas the other part of her was reminding her of his sacrifices for her. If she opted for freedom, she would be an ungrateful person. Now, she was in a daze, not knowing which she should choose.
“Joan, wake up! Have you forgotten about what he had done to you previously? Do you still remember Faye? He even thought of murdering you because of her!” Jessica yelled out at her in agitation.
The moment Jessica mentioned Faye’s name, Joan shuddered as she was overcome by a sharp pain in her chest.
Ouch!
She clutched her chest tightly, hoping that the excruciating pain would subside. Who is Faye? Why did my heart start to throb the moment I heard about her name?
She seems to have forgotten about Faye as well! Ah! Since she has forgotten about me, for sure she can’t recall others as well. Looking intently at the woman standing not far away from him, Larry’s heart was filled with indescribable desperation. How he wished he could leave at once with Joan; yet, he did not dare to act impulsively.
“Jake, I’m terribly sorry. Even so, we can still be friends, right?” Joan grabbed hold of Jake’s arm and asked sincerely.
Friends? So I’m just a normal friend to her? I believe she is aware of my intense affection toward her all this while. Why is she being hypocritical by asking this question again?
Women are indeed the same in general! They are all really pretentious and tend to throw all their promises aside as they please. Nevertheless, I have made up my mind that I won’t let her off easily this round!
“If you choose to leave me today, we can’t be friends anymore! We can only be enemies!” Jake replied firmly with a glint of coldness flickering in his eyes.
Why is he so persistent? Why is he forcing me to marry him even after he knew that I don’t love him? Can he really accept a marriage without love?
Jake, are you sure you understand what love is about? If you do, why are you torturing me?
“I’m really thankful to you for whatever that you’ve done for me. In my eyes, you’re my mighty savior. Yet, I can’t love you affectionately like how a woman loves a man. You know well about this, don’t you?” Joan said softly as she approached him.
Yeah, she is right. Of course, I know well about all these long ago. Yet, I don’t care as long as she can stay by my side forever!
It’s really great torture for me to be trapped in this unrequited love. Since I can never catch Joan’s eye, I would switch to possess her in this way!
“Jake, just put everything to an end! Let go of Joan and stop torturing yourself! From today onwards, we won’t cross paths with each other anymore. You would be able to embark on a new journey as well!” Larry tried to talk him into letting go of Joan. He had managed to cool himself down and
actually sympathized with Jake on his persistence in winning Joan’s heart. Nevertheless, he knew that hard work was never the key element in the eyes of love.
It was undeniable that Jake had sacrificed a lot for Joan. Aside from that, he had no doubt that Jake was really deeply in love with her. Even so, the relationship between men and women could not be solely built on sacrifices and one-sided love.
“Joan, have you thought it through?”
Larry’s charismatic voice and steady gaze were irresistible for Joan, luring her to leave the place at once with him.
Right that instant, Jake moved swiftly to the front of her to block her way.
Both Caspian and Jessica were dumbfounded. They understood that they were not supposed to be involved with the current commotion. If not, the tense situation would surely be escalated.
“Jake, I’m sorry!” On the instant, Joan pushed him hard aside abruptly and made a dart toward Larry.
Larry stretched out his right hand and gripped Joan’s hand at once. Without hesitation, they dashed out of the church. Both Caspian and Jessica also ran out of the church immediately and tried to catch up with their pace.
